Tag You’re It!
Scott Kawolchek, CEO of Direct Avenue Media Agency www.directavenue.com returns for a focused conversation on direct response short-form commercial time and how lengths and tactics play into your success. Learn what strategy works and what doesn’t, and why. Find out why direct response is not bought in CPM’s or GRP’s. (I don’t even know what those really are and am proud to admit it.) This is a very relevant topic.
Scott is one of those guys that knows way too much, and is way too nice! If you think you can, or can’t afford a direct response television campaign, or think you want to drive your product to retail using one, then think again my friend. Think again. Well, listen first and then think again and decide. Knowledge is power and this is where you will get it without any hipster jargon or “swag”. Thanks for checking in! Enjoy. |

Who’s Being Anti-Social Now?
Welcome to my second solo show with my sidekick, Peter the Producer. I totally go on a rant about Social Media and marketing. So much that when I looked up at the clock there was only 10 minutes left in the 50 minutes program. [Sorry Peter, but you are to blame for getting me started – LOL] I guess being unplugged and opinionated was exactly what I needed to share my thoughts on “social and marketing,” which really isn’t much. How can you optimize your brand’s social? Well maybe you can’t. |

Unplugged!
After 70 shows, I’ve decided to test the waters on going solo. Well that is with my guiding light, Peter the Producer at my side. Today I pontificate, as Peter patiently listens, on conceptualization and the challenges of taking an “interesting” product dealing with a bodily function and delicately finding a concept that will resonates with the consumer. Among the challenges was, how to overcome and obtain approval from TV station’s Standard and Practices as well working with the budget requirements of a new startup.
I know you are listening because www.SquattyPotty.com had it’s highest spike in traffic during The C Spot, for the month of April! Yippee! Squatty Potty will be launching its new branded campaign on May 28th, 2013. Coming to a screen near you! |

Human Magnets
Ross Rosenberg an addiction specialist, national speaker and author of “The Human Magnet Syndrome -- Why We Love People Who Hurt Us” published by Premier Publishing in 2013 and has just hit the “digital” shelves. I just love marketing advice from a psychotherapist – after all isn’t understanding what humans need and want? We all want to realize our dreams but at times we may want to just give up too. Find out in 50 minutes what you can do to shift your career, business or “dream” as you take away marketing psychology you can use for just about anything! Thank you Ross! Your insight is what makes The C Spot not only a place to learn, but a place where life's lessons, and the light that is created from them can be shared. If you are wondering how to “bring a product to market, even if that product is you...then the C Spot is the spot you need to be...and listen” Find Ross’ book at rossrosenbergtherapy.com |

Crawford like the Salad Waldorf like Cindy
If you have ever wondered what it would be like to write direct and produce infomercials or what it takes to have one produced, then today’s show is for you. Jim Crawford and Marsha Waldorf are a husband and wife powerhouse who together make-up what the direct response industry calls THE POWER COUPLE. We talk creative but we also talk about why “producers” are so different in the direct response space than any other. It’s a great show when my competition joins me in-studio and stays for another hour after! Learn how the backend plays into the creative an important factor that most creative / producers do not pay attention to. Visit Jim and Marsha at Waldorfcrawford.com or just give them a call. Trust me you will be in great hands! Come visit us on Facebook – C Spot Talk and get in the conversation. Thanks for listening...and sharing! |

Encore presentation of installment 12/20/12 Life is Better with Peter
Today's show is all about challenge and inspiration. Peter Soby, my right hand, friend and social media master is my guest today. At the ripe age of 19 years old Peter, already a successful entrepreneur, found himself paralyzed from a spinal cord injury from the neck down, after diving into unknown shallow waters one hot summer night. I thought it was appropriate to end 2012 with a show dedicated to Peter because he brings to The C Spot a POV on life and itâ's challenges, on being an entrepreneur and how face challenges head on to follow your dreams. Peter's story about coming to Hollywood and his run ins with famous directors and producers is hilarious. A writer, producer and director Peter's true passion is on opening a Donut Shop by 2014. I know. But that's what he wants... and I'm sure he will get it! This is one of those stories that make us look in the mirror and say "What the heck am I complaining about?" Personally, I believe there is always a light at the end of the tunnel and Peter Soby reminds me every day of how life is to be celebrated even if it means spending it in a wheel chair. The most gracious and humble person I know that is truly committed to making the lives of those around him better. Let the next 50 minutes change your life. You can contact Peter at petersoby@gmail.com or find him on Facebook. Thanks for a great year everyone! |

Chris Steele: Upholder of Justice, Entrepreneurs & Trampolines
My guest this week was Chris Steele. He is an actor, spokesman, entrepreneur, radio show host and advocate for entrepreneurs all across America. He is being considered for a role of playing a superhero on a TV show which is apropos: Chris is the most handsome guy I know in all of Direct Response if not all of the television-hosting space. Unfortunately, I didn't get to sit across from him and look at him while interviewing him since he was calling in from his office. If you want to see how handsome Chris is, go ahead and Google him, just be careful because you never know what might come up! Chris makes sure to clarify to Google "Actor Chris Steele" so you don't get any surprises! (Or, you can just go to: actorchrissteele.com)
Besides acting and being a spokes man, Chris is a true family man and he is a great free spirit. He and his wife and kids rented an RV for one year and traveled across the whole country homeschooling the kids along the way while exposing them to all of America. Next, Chris realized the potential of recreation and exercise with trampolines and opened up his own huge trampoline center. Finally, he has a weekly radio show called American Underdog (www.americanunderdog.com) which actually has a format quite similar to mine. He interviews entrepreneurs from across America and advocates for them and gives them helpful tips as well as giving them a platform to market their invention or product. By the end of the show, Chris and I both came to the realization that everybody is really connected and the service we provide for people out there is really great because it gives us the opportunity to help so many people expose and market themselves and their products. And what is better in life than the satisfaction of knowing that you helped someone else! I will be at the Response Expo next week so I will be replaying my show from December 20, 2012 interviewing the inspiring Peter Soby. I will be back live next Thursday, August 11. Until then… Go out and find somebody to help or do a good deed for! |

Google me “JOE”
I have wanted to have Joe Jaffe on my show ever since we met one cold and dreary night in Indiana. Although I didn’t have a radio show at the time, nor did I ever think I would but since I do now, it’s a good opening for the show notes. Joseph Jaffe is a marketing and advertising expert and successful author of 3 books “Life after the 30 Second Spot”, “Join the Conversation” and “Flip the Funnel”. All must reads (me included – I must read them!) Joe’s attitude and passion for doing the right thing and truly seeing the bright side is complemented by his sense of humor and engaging presence. Of course his knowledge, creativity, and expertise always leave his audience with much to think about. Joe’s latest venture is “Evolution” - or is it “Evolation” hmm. His new company is a unique play on marrying start ups with brands. It may sound odd, and it is different, but it’s really worth a listen because there is something to this “link” that is really helping start ups and brands come together in a very contemporary way. If you think you may have the NEXT BIG THING then listen to what Joe has to say...personally, I could listen to Joe all day, and I think he could listen to Joe all day, but hey don’t we all listen to ourselves all day anyway? You can find Joe at startupforbrands.com and jaffejuice.com – or you could just Google...”Joe”. Thanks for listening and enjoy, life. |

Encore presentation of installment 01/17/13 5 Miles Wide and 3 Inches Deep!
Ever wonder why the Viagra commercial talks about a 4 hour erection? Well Tom Haire, Editor and Chief of Response Magazine (ResponseMagazine.com) and John Yarrington, Publisher and Executive Director of Response Expo (ResponseExpo.com) know exactly why... and it's not what you think! The direct response television industry wouldn't be the same without them "The Boys" (to men) (what?) (never mind).
I've know John and Tom for about 12 years and I have never been so impressed with their business acumen, their commitment to the direct response industry, and the knowledge of its history; current state of the "union" and where its trending in the future.
John came loaded with impressive statistics! Here's one. There was 6.2 billion dollars in direct response TV media billings in 2011- only 20% of that was pure play direct response (you know Shamwow style)... 80% was cross over; big pharma, health care, insurance, technology, etc., Let's face it Progressive.com and Geico.com are direct response television (and still can learn a lot from us). Today engaging the consumer is a must but having knowledge of the fundamentals from where it came is missing from most brand strategist. If you want to learn about an industry and know where to go, who to talk to, and how to find your way quickly through the learning curve and to the right players - The Boys have it going on!
Save the date April 2, 3, and 4th 2013 for the Response Expo (San Diego) brought to us by the DRMA (Direct Marketing Alliance) it's the "GO TO" event of the year. Everyone who's any one in direct response will be there! Plus they give Kick Ass Parties and Golf Tourneys. Thanks for listening! Like us on C Spot Talk Facebook page...:) cspotrun.com See you at Response Expo! |

Passion & Love Etched in Stone!
I am so blessed to have two of the most creative people I have ever met on my show today - Jay and Crystal Nadeau of the Nadeau Collection, . The most inspiring young couple that took a passion for artisan tile work, and created an world renown brand. This is a true entrepreneurial heartwarming story of a couple that complement each other and make this world a better place. Here is a tidbit about their creations, together. www.nadeaucollection.com
Translating design influences from throughout the world and across time, the Nadeau Collection celebrates the artistic heritage of ancient and indigenous cultures, as well as modern Asian, Indian, European, African, and South American folk and fine art traditions. The Nadeau design team eagerly explores these sources for new patterns while experimenting with size, scale, and selection of stone and glass. The end results are designs that enable the natural beauty of these tiles to complement the unique character of your home.
Every show brings something new to the curious about bringing a product to market even if that product is you, and today it couldn’t have been more true. |

DOWNTOWN LA, ITALY, ART & THE LEFT BRAIN
My guest in-studio today is Anyes Galleani, www.galleani.com, as a visual artist/photographer living in downtown Los Angeles since 1992, Anyes put the “art” in L.A.’s downtown “Art District” and is one of a handful of preeminent local visual artists. Over the years she created photomontages (before photoshop), collages, digital art, videos and paintings. Her evocative work has been featured in dozens of magazines, venues and exhibits and has been complementing residential and commercial and corporate environments for the past 15 years.
You might be asking how does a visual artist fit into the show’s core topic of "Bringing a product to market even if that product is you"? Well, artists (including actors, writers, musicians, etc.) lament about their creativity and passion, but are not very good nor interested in business and marketing. This can be a problem! Anyes is not only a remarkable visual artist but her left brain works too for business & marketing. It should have been a “good thing” but it was distracting...tune-in to find out how she tamed here left brain and tackled her personal fears. This is a must listen because metaphorically speaking we are all hanging on a wall open for criticism.
Anyes was born and raised on the Italian Riviera and came to California in the 1980’s to study film and photography – she soon found herself photographing celebrities and off on an amazing journey in life. I’ve been lucky to be part of that journey for the past 17 years. There is no one quite like Anyes Galleani!
Make sure to visit galleani.com – or Google her...:)

Does is always rain on Portland?
This week I too am a listener and what a fun, interesting, wacky, eclectic, looking-for-love, subconscious kind of Valentine's Day show today! With great featured guest, Certified Hypnotherapist JOE TABENELLA, his wife [and former guest] ANTOINETTE PERAGINE, (Tony and Tiny of Tony and Tina’s Off Off Broadway play) and gracious callers Portland and Jennifer, discuss how to use your mind to get what you want out of life. Then there was Peter who was stuck in the parking garage because the elevator wasn’t working and since Peter is confined to a wheel chair Tracy decided she would patch him from the depths of "Hell". Although I have to disagree on “Hell” as I think the parking garage is a lovely place where I find Carlos, an angel in disguise each week. Tracy Metro does take us on a wonderful departure from “marketing” talk but I’m back on the 21st to get those engines started again! Take a listen and learn how to get what you want in life and how hypnosis can help! |

Metro Mars and Fish - Oh My!
Tracy Metro (www.tracymetro.com) filled in for me today and brought with her the most fascinating guest EVER! Albert Fisher, an award winning Writer, Director, Producer and Network Executive joins the bubbliest personality in Hollywood (make sure to check out Tracy's credits too) and together take you on a "personal" journey from 1951, the Golden Age of Television, to 2013 the Digital Age of Reality Television... did I just say that?. Please check out Albert's site at www.originalamateurhour.com while you listen... you know like going to a museum and renting the recorded head sets - only in reverse.
Kick up your feet for the next 50 minutes and travel back to when Elvis Presley was young, Frank Sinatra was looking for a job, Steven Spielberg, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Merv Griffin, Ted Mac, and John Glenn where riding high in Hollywood or not so high but on their way. Find out who coined the phrase Close Encounters of the 1, 2nd and 3rd Kind; and how Mars Rocks, Patty Hearst, The Hoboken 4, 1962 World's Fair and, wait for it... UFO's share 1 degree of separation. Thanks for listening. |

Cool Beans, Hot Sh-t & The "Nasty" C Spot
Bob Knorpp, the infamous host of the number 1 marketing podcast, "The Bean Cast" www.thebeancast.com - joins me today for a heated discussion about branding, direct response, efficiencies and pool tables. You see, I'e been a guest on Bob's show, which I enjoy listening to each week, but today it was about Bob being on my show, damn it. No doubt he knows how to pitch because he did a great job for the first 15 minutes. (I couldn't get a word in edgewise...) I've got to take lessons from him. It's an interesting conversation that stems from a brand's internal operations being key to their overall marketing success. Difficult to explain, yes. But Bob, again, does a great job in the first 15 minutes. I agree and disagree with Bob today - but not so much on "operational branding" but it being the solely the key to unlocking paid, owned and earned media in order to develop the brand from within as opposed to "without" - what? You have to listen... This is a complete departure for The C Spot as I go head to head with the Cool Bean himself. BTW Bob named my show a year ago and I come to find how he is embarrassed because it's so "nasty". Say what? Www.cspotrun.com @cspotalk @cdirectresponse |

Ann Twat Pera Gine ah Lives!
In studio is the one, the only, the amazing....drum role...ANN TWAT PERA GINE AH! Once upon a time on a stage at the Comedy Club in L.A., the true story of a tortured young Italian girl from Brooklyn came to be told and then became a Hollywood Urban Legend. As a stand up comic my guest told it like it was for her growing up in Brooklyn - it was hysterical then and still is today. You see in Brooklyn you don't survive without a street name so from the ever so dainty Antoinette Peragine, came Ann TWAT Pera GINE ah! Even the nuns at her all girls catholic high school knew her as Ann Twat. What they didn't know was that she would become a woman of incredible accomplishments! Perhaps it was that name that gave Antoinette the drive and bravado to take on anything that came her way - to meet fear head on. I am so lucky to know this lady...and even luckier to have her in-studio with me today. As Tina, in the Off Broadway play Tony and Tina's Wedding she married "Tony" 365 times and then 10 years later did it for real! Today she is known as the " Wedding Buddha" from her appearance on a TLC reality show where she was honed in on her ability to create magical weddings. www.TheWeddingBuddah.com. On top of that she staffs over 1,000 events a year with her "Before the Party" event staffing business..I'm out of breath...Antoinette is a remarkable woman who brings light and love to all she meets. You may never have a chance to meet her - and that's okay because she shares her wisdom and passion for life and success on today's show. |

2 Persians and a Jew
Marketing - Marketing and more Marketing! Or is it? Today's show features 2 very different people with one thing in common, their roots are in Iran. Nadia Lessani, currently with C Spot Run Direct (www.cspotrundirect.com) as the leader of the "Free US Hispanic World" came to the USA 30 years ago with her parents and Shah Sharyari came to the USA only 10 years ago. Both tell their own personal story of how to become a successful entrepreneur. This is one of those shows that bring humor, passion, truth and personal secrets to the forefront and give great tips on how to overcome challenges and live your dream. Oh, BTW. I'm the Jew. :) Nadia built the US Hispanic direct response industry back in 2002 having the foresight into the buying power of 49 millions Hispanics. And Shah owns ABSS4L automotive with the exclusive rights to a specialize coating for cars from the Netherlands. Odd couple? Maybe. Great show? Absolutely. It's the fastest 50 minutes you'll ever listen to, so you better get started! |

I Can't Hear You!
Jennifer S. Wilkov, to put it lightly, is a media personality. Well, let's say super personality and public figure known by many as a #1 radio show host, best-selling award winning author, international speaker, freelance writer, and the "girl next door"! Just kidding. Today's show focuses on an extraordinary 2 day event happening in March 2013 "Get Your Voice On" - but wait there's more! It's planned for the next 9 years. It's a huge endeavor and just the way Jennifer and Michele like it! Go Big or Go Home, right?
Jennifer's partner Michele Mattia was my (rock'n) guest August 30, 2012 Layla, darling won't you ease my worried mind. Listen and find out how a tree changed her life...seriously.
So instead of ranting on about this week's show, take a listen now. After make sure to check out Jennifer's new book, Boys before Business: The Single Girl's Guide to Having it All. I got my voice on with The C Spot - how will you get yours? www.getyourvoiceon.com March 1-2 2013 in NYC! |

Encore presentation of installment 05/3/12 IT'S TOP SECRET! Randall Battinkoff
Today's guest Randall Batinkoff who starred in movies, For Keeps, School Ties, Hefner Unauthorized (where he played Legendary Playboy) Hugh Hefner; has had memorable roles in classic films like The Player, As good As it gets, The Peacemaker and more recently Kick Ass, also produces Video Games, films and even invented a product that I produced a DR campaign for called Top Secret! We discuss Randall's challenges in bringing Top Secret to market in the highly competitive category of thinning hair for both men and women. Randall opens up about what he would have done different, what he's doing now with Top Secret (which is a kick ass product by the way). After working together in some pretty bad conditions and shooting 15 people in 1 day and accomplishing the impossible - we dish about some of the amazing people that we were lucky to have on set - although we laugh - we really were touched by their personal experiences! This is a great show because it proves that no matter who you are the challenges are the same in bringing a product to market! All you have to remember is that LIFE IS TRULY BETTER WITH THICKER HAIR! |

The Californians and CPC's!
Years ago I wrote an article about how direct response marketing was laden with acronyms and how each day there are more and more. It could not be more true than today. MER, CPC, CPA, SEM, SEO, KPI, GRP, API, CPM & SNL...? Hannah Bubis, Founder and Owner of Hub Net Media (www.hubnetmedi.com) is in-studio today (with her body guard Lisa). It was a fast paced super fun and informative show. Hannah is a twelve year veteran of the online media and marketing space where she's developed profitable campaigns for VH1.com, Accenture, The New York Times, Chase Manhattan and QuickSilver (to name a few)!
Quirky, beautiful and smart as they come, her expertise and passion in paid search led to the birth of Hub Net Media where her team works with advertisers, ad providers, publishers and search affiliate networks to develop CPC (cost per click) solutions.
I pretty much got it out of her what the hell all of the acronyms mean (okay 50%) but what's more is we shared a moment of 2 true SNL Californians. http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/the-californians/1396627/ |

2,000 Cheese Cakes...really?
Entrepreneur extraordinaire Cheryl Canter-Valesella, Owner of "Baked it Myself" Event and Catering company is in the house and I am loving it! What an inspiration - we totally rocked it today.
It's not easy - it's hard work to start to have your own business never mind how scary it is! But what do you do when the light goes on and the door opens? Do you take it? Or do you say, "Next year..." 14 years ago Cheryl's 4th of July cake would her change her life and catering in Hollywood. forever. In fact, Lisa Kudrow, Cheryl's friend; and Febe on the sitcom Friends said "You can name it "Baked it Myself" because I won't have to lie if someone asks me." Love it!
After the show I got to thinking - what was the message today? What if Cheryl didn't go to the BBQ on 4th of July? Or brought the cake? What's it really about? Is it being in the right place at the right time? Or is it realizing that you are always in the right place? So, are you still waiting to bake your cake for the BBQ? It's said that entrepreneurs aren't made, they're born. It couldn't be more true than with Cheryl. In 50 minutes she manages to be organically inspiring about how hard work, long hours, and lot's of sugar - makes the medicine go down! It's conversation as usual at The C Spot - so press play and enjoy. BTW - You have to check out www.bakeditmyself.com and see who in Hollywood is eating brownies, snicker doodles, lemon bars, cheese cake, banana coconut pudding, prosciutto and pears, brie and catsup, mac and cheese, Jell-O shots, bread pudding, raw tuna, cooked tuna, blue tuna... Make sure to leave us a review if listening on Itunes, or C Spot Talk [FB] or 140 @cspottalk |

Have you ever wondered how to effectively reach the US Hispanic market with your brand message to increase your ROI? Well, Denira Borrero, COO of Omni Direct, a full service US Hispanic direct response company located in Miami, FL, (www.omnidirect.tv) is today's guest and an encyclopedia of marketing know-how!
Since the purchasing power of 59 million US Hispanics is growing, brands and retailers alike are jumping in head first. But is that smart? Are they aware of the secrets to multi-cultural marketing? What can they learn from direct response marketers who have sold billions of dollars in product by engaging the Hispanic community through targeted television and specialized tactics? The C Spot is about marketing advice and today's show is full of it...advice that is. So, if you think 20% of the US population can be ignored because "they" don't have purchasing power... then I suggest you give Mitt a call, and buy a box of Kleenex.
Denira Borrero has an MBA from Columbia University Business School and a BS from SUNY Binghamton School of Management. Currently she is serving on the Electronic Retailing Association's Board of Directors, and is Chair of the US Hispanic Council. Denira is responsible for all digital marketing initiatives at Omni Direct, Inc.

It all grows in the Petry Dish
Today The C Spot features guest expert Rick Petry a long time colleague and direct marketing professional. Rick helped build Tyee in Portland, and then transitioned with Tyee as it became part of Euro RSCG, which is now called Havas Edge (I think there was one more name in between Tyee and Euro). On his own since 2005, Rick helps B2C and B2B marketers optimize campaigns for both products and services. Just wrote his 100th column for Electronic Retailer magazine and produced a hilarious sizzle for Direct Response Marketing Alliance (DRMA) Marketer of the Year event in September 2012.

Get Ready to Sweat!
Have you ever woken up and knew that what you were doing in life just wasn't working and it was time for a drastic change? Of course you have, but did you make the change? Kimberly Fowler Founder of YAS Fitness Centers in Venice, California did (www.Go2YAS.com) after being impaled on a tree stump while hiking alone on Mt. Charleston, NV. Kimberly managed to survive but when she awoke in the hospital it was clear that it was time to make a change. But what change? Today, 10 years later that change resonates across America. Dr. Sanjay Gupta calls YAS (Yoga for Athletes and Spinning) irreverent. Shape Magazine calls her "The Godmother of Hybrids." New Face of Modern Yoga and Indoor Cycling, Kimberly is a published author, philanthropist, feminist, athlete, speaker, marketer, merchandiser and successful entrepreneur. Just 10 short years ago YAS didn't exist and now it's ubiquitous with fitness. What makes YAS so different? Why is it so successful? How did she do it? What can you learn from Kimberly's story? You got it, this is where I tell you to listen and learn how to create a brand beyond your wildest vision. |

Keeping up with the Crouthers
Thinking about direct response? This is a must listen for inventor, entrepreneur, marketer, CMO, ad agencies and brands.
My guest today is Doug Crouthers, currently Director of New Biz at Media Stream Direct, www.mediastreamdirect.com, and one of the smartest guys I know. Doug has over a decade of experience on the call center side where he worked his way up the ladder at Tony Hoffman Productions from taking sales calls to Vice President of Sales.
I had heard about Doug’s work at Irwin Naturals where he built a call center from the ground up in record time and held the post of VP of Teleservices from late 2005 until 2010. Since he came to Irwin a month after my departure in late 2005, I thought of him as an urban legend up until a year ago when we met at an industry event. Never having talked for more than 10 minutes since I realized today before the show that we had an enormous amount in common. It was like I had found someone that spoke my native tongue in a foreign country. You see there are a few things that are huge bones of contention for me and today I was finally able to discuss openly CLIENT SIDE CAMPAIGN CONSULTING/MANAGEMENT. We talk in depth about what it really takes to offer this service and why it’s critical to understand the scope of work and the responsibilities that comes with the title. After you listen – ask yourself....”Are you in good hands?” @cspottalk cspotrun.com |

Concept Creative Content Cauly & Cooper
Pat Cauley, Creative Producer for Raymond Entertainment in Los Angeles (raymondentertainment.com) joined me in-studio today to discuss his secret to creating content that sells your product (even if that product is YOU). As an award winning journalist Pat has emerged as a distinct voice in the direct response space - not an easy accomplishment! Meeting Pat when he was just a puppy, way back in the day, it thrills me to see what a creative force he has become. We're candid and fun, and at times, a bit all over the place, but that's what makes The C Spot a great listen. Hit us up! @patcauley @cspottalk |

Entrepreneur to Corporate Captive and back again!
This interview is the epitome of YOU being the product that YOU are bringing to market – and I love it for that reason!
It’s packed with so much passion, humor, expertise and useful advice that anyone who is a corporate captive longing to be an entrepreneur, or the other way around, needs to listen!
Today’s guest, Ben Fadavi was past president and partner of Capital Media Group from 2002 - 2010 and a successful entrepreneur at the age of 18 when his 2 person messenger service grew to over 500 employees. During a short break Ben found himself working side by side with his ex-wife Nadia at her new venture “Capital Media”. Nadia’s vision to create a US Hispanic Media Agency actually grew to be the biggest in the country with over 30 million dollars in billings in a few short years.
So how did Benend up at EuroRSCG in 2010? And after 2 short years of growing Euro’s US Hispanic division to billings that exceeded some of the domestic billings, left to launch a new agency of his own?
Was Ben a corporate captive? Is being an entrepreneur in your blood? Find out what drives Ben’s passion to take on such a huge risk and start a new agency? What will Ben come up with to set Mundo Media Group apart from the competition? After the show, ask yourself...are you a corporate captive or an entrepreneur?
BTW, You may find yourself asking what is Nadia doing now? That’s another show for sure! You can contact Ben at Ben.Fadavi@gmail.com or Link Up on Linked In. His new agency will soon be up and running so check back to www.MundoMediaGroup.com. Enjoy the show! Please remember to leave a review. |

Do you have what it takes to be on TV? Of course you do!
Scott Kowalchek is CEO of Direct Avenue, established in 2007, specializing in short form branded and direct response advertising under one roof. Scott's background includes working on general accounts at ICG (Carat), Williams Worldwide TV and started Euro RSCG's short form division in 1997 before creating his own agency - Direct Avenue. We discuss the various ways that short form (not spot as that is a general market term) is purchased and planned. Why direct response media is different than general market. Why it's affordable, how data is shared, how media is quantified, analyzed, rebooked, and even "dumped." Local markets vs. national cable why DRTV is bought on a national level and not locally. Why you can afford to use TV in your marketing plan and why you MUST use it to drive awareness because it is extremely cost effective. Find out how, why, and what it takes to bring your product to television. |

Chinese Cardboard Oh My!
Owner of AVC Corp, Guy Marom, and his new addition to the AVC team, Nathan Heidrich, visit me in-studio for a hot conversation about boxes. It may sound boring but it's not because it's the most important part of bringing any product to market!
It's important to understand why you should think "in the box" long before think "out of the box." Are you as sick of that expression as I am? My good friend Guy Marom has 25 years of experience in the packaging, printing and media replication industry - in fact he consulted with Walmart/Sam's Club on their Green Initiative and currently his latest contribution, the "Envirobox", cuts plastic out all together and increases cube utilization up to 40%. Say what? That means you can fit more product into a container, or on a shelf, (I think) so when you are rocking it at Costco you will appreciate the huge savings. AVC is simply a turn key packaging company willing to work with billion dollar brands (dah) and entrepreneurs alike.
Nathan is the guy that will shepherd your project from start to finish... it's well known in the packaging circles that there is very little he hasn't done to paper. Enjoy the show...and then hit up Nathan at nathan@avccorp.com visit www.avccorp.com |

Layla, darling won't you ease my worried mind.
How do you change your life? How do you take your product, your career, your invention, your passion to the next level?
I loved this show! Michele Mattia (www.michelemattia.com) is a best selling Author, Inspirational Speaker and Certified Life Design Coach, as well as Creative Strategist. Usually I'm not at a loss for words about my guest, but this interview turned into 50 minutes of pure inspiration and has left me thinking...everyone will take something away from this show - and how grateful I am to have had Michele on The C Spot. Once an owner of a successful technology consulting firm in Manhattan, Michele transformed her life after refusing to push a little girl named Layla on a tire swing. I know that each of you will find a message that will resonate with your soul and put you on the road to finding your purpose in life.

Collette Liantonio, President of Concepts TV Productions, www.Conceptstv.com, is known as the Queen of Infomercials and rightfully so. We've all seen them, Pajama Jeans, The Amish Fireplace, The George Foreman Grill, Furniture Fix, Finishing Touch, Better Pasta Pot, I could go on forever. I would gander a guess that she has made BILLONS of DOLLARS for her clients and built brands around the world. Seriously!
You may think it's easy to produce a DRTV commercial, but I have news for you it's NOT! So what's her secret?
You'll have to listen to find out. BTW Collette has been honored with 75 awards and recognized as One of the Top 25 Most Influential People in DRTV! I'm #26! LOL Way to rock the radio Collette! Don't wait - listen now! |

Big Mouth Brincatti - CEO Kenny Brincat
Kenny Brincat the CEO and inventor of Brincatti Refillable Bottles, Inc. (www.brincatti.com) is in studio today. Bottles may seem like a boring subject - it's not at all! We all want to take our favorite shampoo, conditioner or body lotion with us on a trip but transferring it from the standard size to the travel size is torture! Well Kenny solved that problem with the Brincatti "wide mouth" refillable bottle and went on to develop the latest technology for all refillable plastic bottles. What's the catch? No catch just fact - bringing a product to market is the toughest of all magic tricks even for a product that solves an every day problem in so many ways! Questa e una stampa! (That's a print!)
It's all about digital marketing right? WRONG! Today's guest Founder and President of Manhattan Media, Marianna Morello, (e una bella donna) shares her 30 years experience in direct-response print advertising. Manhattan Media had created a niche as the #1 DRTV print Agency of Choice 17 years ago and remains the go to DR agency for launching a new product. Unlike what you've heard print is not dead - it's very much alive and successful as a part of your marketing mix. What differentiates traditional print from direct response print and is your product right for print? Good question, no? I mean when was the last time you left your tablet or smart phone on the back of the toilet to read later or an airplane pocket, or handed it to someone and said..."keep it" ? Just think of the "pass along" of a magazine - how many hands and eyeballs actually see your ad! Let's face it Pass along is print's social network and your ad lives much longer than any ad in the digital space. This is a fascinating interview. In fact, I'm killing myself for not running print with Manhattan Media for my last campaign! Listen and learn and then PRINT IT! |

Face time with FaceTime
Guest expert Todd Mason, CEO of FaceTime Strategy was in-studio to discuss his latest (and perhaps greatest) endeavor. Todd's home base is DC where as President of Atlantic Video, within 7 years, grew revenue by 400% while enhancing staff, technology and reputation. Although I just meet Todd a couple of weeks ago, we've proved there is really just 2 degrees of separation. In 1999 I spent most of the year between Los Angeles and DC producing 2 infomercials. Guess where? Yup, Atlantic Video. So I know first hand about the "guy upstairs" that was shaking things up down below subterranean level of the ATF building - yes Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms building). Todd was the EP of The Pet Physic on Animal Planet and was on the launch team as production management for several ESPN series including "Pardon the Interruption," "Around the Horn" and "Cold Pizza,"
If that isn't enough - he managed the massive production of the PBS historic 26-hour live global broadcast of the new millennium. Now how does a guy that did all that - end up in direct response marketing? You'll have to listen to find out! |

The Best Damn Sports [bra] Show Period!
Today's guest is Hilary Lambert, Owner and Creator of the American Sports Bra. We talk boobs, boobs, boobs and more boobs. In fact, there is so much boobage we had 2 callers (that I hung up on)! Hilary created her first prototype at 21 years old sewing two bras together by hand never imagining that a top NYC plastic surgeon would be recommending it to his breast cancer, as well as augmentation, patients. It's a true success story of how a college athlete faced with a "big" problem (no pun intended) managed a career as a journalist for National Geographic a writer and segment producer for Granada Entertainment, married, had a baby, and ended up featured in Vogue Magazine and still found time to bring her product to market. How did she do it? Take a listen. |

THE LADY AND THE PITCHMEN - Lindsey V. Brooks
What a great interview with Lindsey V. Brooks the CEO of Boardwalk Brands,, and Chairman of the Board of the extraordinary product analysis site www.HitLaboratories.com. Since Lindsey and I have a lot in common in DRTV and as...wait for it...writers, directors, and producers of DRTV commercials, we covered a lot of ground in just 50 minutes. Key words - Ron Popeil, Billy Mays, Sully (Anthony Sullivan of the cancelled Pitchman TV show) Vince Offer (Shamwow) and what it takes to be a true (successful) pitch person. Lindsey shares a super simple secret that everyone can use when pitching a product and how to standout from the 12 other "boring" sales reps that came in the door before you. There is so much more...but you have to listen.
I mean what is an Advanced Certified Sommelier doing in marketing and the DRTV business? Oh and when you see the Schticky on TV with the crazy Shamwow Guy - that's Lindsey at work - gotta love how she took a 30 year old product and made it one of the top DRTV spots today.

THE NEXT BIGZING! - Dhana Cohen
Have you ever wondered if you had the next big thing? Or how the heck you get your product into SkyMall? Or if people on planes really order that stuff? Ya know the guy in SkyMall with his head on the big ugly blue pillow on his seat back tray? Well my guest today is Dhana Cohen from www.TheNextBigZing.com and she is the one that got that guy into SkyMall! (I you can be the one to get him out...joke). Dhana (Dee ana) talks about her epiphany when video hit the internet and how she found a way to make it work through her online video reviews of retail ready products on her website www.TheNextBigZing.com (check it out - it ROCKS). What’s super genius is where she went from there, how SkyMall came into the picture and how it’s now evolved into a contest to be IN SkyMall – which by the way the guy with the blue giant weird looking pillow as been in SkyMall for something like 5 years. – (But have you ever seen anyone on a plane actually use one?) Back on point – Dhana is just a wealth of information and really lets a lot out of the bag that she could have easily kept to herself. I know, I know, here I go again telling you to listen – but really if you haven’t figured it out by now every week is something different – relevant – and fun! Enjoy. |

Today’s guest went above and beyond to make me feel at home! Paul Greenberg of Owner and Creative Director of Greenberg Direct is an extremely talented producer and director whose 60% of his infomercials have rolled out – which is super remarkable. In true style Paul arrived with a little picnic basket, a Kosher bottle of wine, one wine glass because the other one broke on his way, Brazilian Cheese bread his beautiful wife made and, of course, Jewish chocolate coins topped with microwave popcorn. Paul then preceded to drink the entire bottle of wine! Almost. We did get a little serious so there is some great information and tid-bits of things you would never know or learn anywhere else about the inside scoop on the infomercial industry. When Paul and I get together we can talk for days – laugh for weeks and dish up a bunch crazy conversation. We do talk about lobbying on Capital Hill for the direct response industry, what that really means, Kris Johnson’s party breath, FTC Regulation on the direct response industry and why it’s unfair. How self regulation kind of sucks and why – but is better than FTC scrutiny. Among other things Paul talks about his work with the Flavor Wave, H2O Mop, Aboer Twist, Dr. Allen Sellner and his bunionectomies ( not sure about that spelling) and how disgusting they are – it’s gets weirder when Paul pulls out his mini microscope that hooks to his Iphone and gives me a molecular look at his eyebrows and tongue! Don’t ask...just listen! Oh did you know that the Abslide Infomercial grossed over 350 million dollars in sales! Well that’s what Paul said...is it true? That’s more than Forest Gump. |

IT'S TOP SECRET!

WHAT'S YOUR EPIPHANY? - Elise Ballard
Have you ever had an Epiphany? Did you keep it private? Did you share it with the world? Did it change your life? Today’s guest Elise Ballard is the queen of Epiphanies. The author of the book Ephiphany: True Stories of Sudden Insight to Inspire, Encourage and Transform – she is also the creator of Epiphanychannel.com, contributing blogger for PositivelyPositive.com as well as the producer of Dr. Memhet OZ and Michael Roizen’s successful YOU DVD series. Oy vey, I’m already out of breath! This interview rocks because Elise is a powerhouse of passion, inspiration and all things wonderful. It’s not easy, even when you have a publisher to market your book – and Elise knows this first hand. But her insight and advise is spot on. (Spot on get it?) Through interesting serendipitous moments in our journey of life we have crossed paths many times and when we do get together – Elise is one fire ball – today is quite funny because having interviewed me for her book (I’m sandwiched between Deepok Chopra and Clive Davis’ epiphanies) today get to sit back and do the interviewing...kind of like the when the student becomes the teacher! I say this about all my guest – they are totally awesome and from each one there is something to learn that will help you bring your idea, product, or epiphany...to market. Oh and don’t forget to check out the Epiphanychannel.com – you’ll be able to read my life changing epiphany – and maybe, just maybe it will change your life too. |

IS IT REALLY FANAKEE.COM? - Marty Fahncke
What a great show! Today’s guest is Marty Fahncke, President of FawnKey & Associates a consulting and marketing management firm with over 25 years of experience in the direct to consumer marketing industry. As usual we ran out of time and we were only able to talk about a few very important aspects of how use the digital space advantageously to market your product. I learned a lesson (actually had Marty on the show so I could get free advice) on how to split The C Spot into segments so that I could take advantage of all of digital tools to grow listenership through tactics with Google, Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube. IS THAT A CHAIR IN YOUR POCKET OR ARE YOU…? - Adam Jay
Today Adam Jay, the big handsome and ballsy Doc Bottom’s Aspray (see Washington Post article of August 24, 2009) Pitchman extraordinaire recounts how the nation flipped with disbelief when he blasted the airways with his 1st direct response commercial that was so outrageous Billy Mays (we still love you Billy) and Vince Offer (Shamwow) wished they had the “balls” to go that far! It’s in your face message launched Adam right into his next success the Spill Daddy Paint Bucket (Whose your Daddy... Spill Daddy!) and the hyper success seen in every store -The Pocket Chair. Adam’s wife, rock and inspiration is Wendi “Rogers”, ( who I shared a bed with before Adam...stop with the dirty mind ) whose career as a top HSN host as well as infomercial host of the huge hit Sweet Simplicity in the 90’s, (parodied on SNL – the ultimate compliment) plays a key role in Idea Nations incredibly growth and integrity in a business wrought with (I’ll be nice) smoke and mirrors and over zealous promises to inventors.
