Fouche Way

BRANDON FOUCHE

Brandon Fouche

Brandon Fouché began his canine rehabilitation program more than twenty years ago. He has developed an uncanny understanding of the "pack mentality" in dogs, although he would tell you that he doesn't have a special gift; anyone can do it, all one has to do is listen, look, and feel. Rehabilitating aggressive dogs, offering them a second chance at a wonderful life, has been his passion.

Of the thousands of dogs that he has rehabilitated, he says, "There are no two dogs alike, just as there are no two people alike." His ability to understand the good in all dogs, and find the lines of communication in every dog he meets, is what makes him so uniquely successful as a behaviorist.

Often called Los Angeles’s “miracle worker” for dogs, Brandon takes dogs that are considered by others to be hopeless cases and turns them into loving dogs. He is proud to be the dog behaviorist and rehabilitator for rescue organizations in Los Angeles and surrounding areas. To date, he has not met a dog that he hasn't been able to help.

The best description of his approach to his work comes from his father who told him, "Do something you enjoy doing, not what you think you should do. And don't look with your eyes, your eyes see limitation. Look with your heart and find out what it is you already know." Brandon looks at "his" dogs with his heart.

Are you a SCIENCE guy or gal? If you need "proof" or "reason" or "evidence" in order to truly believe, don't miss Brandon's intro today! Brandon challenges us to use our brain and not to forget that our dog's have a brain too!

A Jazz song - Shinji, owner of Jazz, never gave up on his 3 year old male black lab mix who had become aggressive towards people and dogs after he was bitten at the dog park when he was a year and a half. They went to a variey of trainers but teaching Jazz how to sit and come didn't help. Shinji knew that training wasn't the answer  and he knew there must be more to help Jazz's fear aggression. There was a REASON he learned the behavior which means Jazz could unlearn it. See Jazz's transformation in these videos. youtu.be/D0VP8tV00aQ youtu.be/sBe-IyCV5qk  Jazz is learning by being with the pack and Brandon is teaching Shinji how to take his new knowledge home and put it to use!

Rita Rejected! - Rita, a pretty blue pitbull, used to go to doggy daycare, but she became aggressive and the daycare people isolated her and told Sarah, her owner, that Rita couldn't come back. Sarah thought that she would use toys and exercise to help control Rita's hyperactivity. Little did she know she was adding to the problem!  Listen to how Rita's "playing" in the house translated to her "hunting" outside the house. And the PROOF that Rita can be with dogs is here: youtu.be/GhY_EVLjsRc. Here the video a Rita in the pool that Brandon and Sarah talk about: youtu.be/Dj41P1ehpbw

Valentino joins the pack - Nicole revisits the show and discusses Valentino, the German Shepherd she found in Ladera Hills. He'd been living in the streets for awhile but what his evaluation revealed was that Valentino has lived in a human world AND a street world. He is balanced in both. Listen to why his human caretakers can't react out of fear at this critical stage in Valentino's captured life. Valentino's next stage is to be taken back to the environment where he was found and let him CHOOSE to stay with the pack or go back to the streets from where he was found.  Stay tuned for more of his journey and the let the EVIDENCE unfold. Video of Valentino (with the leash) out with the pack. youtu.be/fxMSkdp0iJ0

Do you want to fix your dog without fixing yourself first? Listen to why your dog will never get better if you don't look at yourself first.

Romie's Rehabilitation - We heard Kat on a previous show talk about her dog Romie.  She's back to share about how she and her husband were holding Romie's rehabilitation back while Romie's been at Brandon's facility. Listen as Brandon explains how his hands were tied, and the rehabilitation could not move forward. What was the change that happened in Kat and her husband and what happened once Romie was in rehab? Quote of the show "You never really know a dog until you see them fight." Listen to hear what Brandon has learned about Romie and how Kat was finally able to let go of her fears.  Here is video of Romie's horse "lesson" youtu.be/45VDG0IEV1A

DANGER IS REAL but FEAR IS A CHOICE - The biggest problems we have with our dogs is the thing we have greatest control over...learned behaviors. How does our own FEAR prevent us from taking back the control?

Brooklyn Blues - Adam discusses his female dog Brooklyn who was fighting with his other male boxer whenever Brooklyn felt insecure. Adam played "games" with her for a year and she ended up aggressive towards other dogs and aggressive towards people. Adam went through the conventional "training" programs, but felt he needed something new - something different - that would offer a real, permanent solution...not just a quick fix. Listen as Adam shares how the Fouche Way was the answer he was looking for and Brooklyn's fear aggression was finally assessed accurately. youtube.com/watch?v=qSbkzoNdH_4

Fostering Fear - Robin from Angel City Pit Bulls rescue group talks about the fear she experienced after an incident with her foster dog Mason. She resorted to "crating and rotating" which just produced more frustration and aggression. With Brandon's guidance she finally put Mason together with some dogs. Not only is Robin overcoming her fear, but she is trusting her dogs and trusting herself! angelcitypits.org

Blended family - Blending families can be challenging.  Add some dogs into the mix and it can become even more challenging. Next, add to the equation the fact that none of the dogs get along!  Leilani is attacking Hudson. Hudson doesn't like Donkey. And Donkey doesn't like Leilani or Hudson!  Listen to Sara talk about how she had to face her fearof putting the dogs together so that her new family could come together successfully. Brandon and Sara have a candid conversation about hierarchy, fear, aggression, stress, and of course why "training" isn't the answer. youtube.com/watch?v=Gp-ot8MuZJg

Here's what Kat wrote AFTER she met with Brandon. "Brandon told me that although Romie had some genetic aggression, it has been my behavior and the wrong kind of training that spiraled Romie up to a level 10....Brandon gave me some techniques to use with Romie which have yielded immediate results. We intend to continue with socialization work. I will keep you posted on Romie's progress. I am hopeful. Allie reached out to Downtown Dog Rescue who referred her to Brandon. Here is what Allie said, "We decided to take Maggie to Brandon after a failed attempt at attending an obedience school class. She barked, whined and went nuts when we walked into the training room. Obviously not the way to go with her! The trainers were pretty clueless about how to get her to calm down and she was given a whole bag of treats while trying to get her to calm down through positive reinforcement. Listen to Brandon speak with Matt Beisner of Zen Dog Training as he discusses the challenge that he faced with one of his dogs. As a trainer, he thought he had tried every possible technique and yet his dog was so aggressive, he felt that the dog was not safe to live in the community. It's a great story with a happy ending.

Mouse, was a South LA shelter dog photographed and networked by the Lu Parker Project team of volunteers, rescued by Downtown Dog Rescue and adopted by Suzanne and her family. She seemed like an easy going submissive dog that got along with all people and all dogs, especially her two children that she adores. Add a new pit bull puppy, some time to settle into her new home and there was trouble. If it wasn't for Suzanne's dedication to finding a solution rather than giving up, Mouse would likely have been another returned rescue dog. Listen how Brandon diagnosed Mouse's "problem". Check out some video of Mouse playing with new dogs http://youtu.be/IJJvbijfwCI

FEATURED DOG FOR ADOPTION! West LA shelter dog, SONORA, is being fostered by a LAAS volunteer while still looking for her forever home. Rather than finding a rescue in another state or shipping her to Canada, the volunteers decided to find out if Sonora liked to play and would she be OK living in a home with other dogs since this is what potential adopters are looking for. Brandon assessed her and the good news is, SHE LOVES OTHER DOGS and should be adopted into a home with another dog. Please help us find Sonora her forever home so the volunteers can continue to save more dogs like Sonora who had limited time left at the shelter. http://youtu.be/b9beT4HlzMw

In just two months after rescuing him, they didn't know where to turn before meeting with Brandon. Find out how Brandon helped them connect with their dog.
